The Friends held a Needham Park cleanup and community picnic to celebrate Earth Day 2023!
A total of 12 community members turned out to help improve the park by picking up trash, planting flowers, laying mulch, and placing flower bed borders. One neighbor provided an in-kind donation of slate chips, which our volunteers used to top off the pads underneath the park’s bench and picnic table.

We were visited by District 6 Commissioner Ted Terry, and Project Administrator Miranda Rupkey, who were interested to learn more about our park.

Thanks to the work of our neighborhood volunteers, we were able to make notable improvements to key areas of the park!

And we were excited to meet new neighbors, and see familiar faces, at our community picnic — with a total of 18 individuals joining us for the fun (and hot dogs)!

DeKalb County’s Needham Park “Concept Plan”
Today’s event also enabled the Friends to spread awareness of DeKalb County’s plan for the park. We are excited to work with members of County leadership to work toward our vision, and theirs, for a park which better meets the needs of our community!
