The Friends of Needham Park are collaborating with DeKalb County RPCA and Park Pride to pursue more park improvement in 2023!
We have turned our attention to the wooden bridge at the bottom of Needham Dr., which spans the creek flowing through the park. Unfortunately, the bridge condition has worsened in recent years; and safe passage across is no longer possible.

On Friday, September 2, 2022, the Friends presented our case for replacing the bridge to a joint committee led by DeKalb County RPCA. And on Tuesday, September 6, we received their letter of support!
Earlier this week, we officially notified Park Pride that the Friends intend to pursue a grant to cover: tearing down the current bridge, cleaning debris, installing a new bridge, and performing some basic landscaping at either side. Accounting for inflation, the work has been quoted at $47,784. If awarded (in 2023), the grant from Park Pride may cover some or all of this cost. Be on the lookout for fundraisers or other volunteer opportunities that may be necessary to help us get there!
